The economical rise of Beijing has also it's shadowside. Every year many immigrants arrive at the West Railway Station. Most of them, in the search for fortune, find work as an constructor or collect recyclable waste. They are the hope of their family's far away in the village. Nobody want to lose their face, so they can only go back with enough money to spend....

Private Space //

In China the youth sacrifices their current existence in order to look for a better future. They go to Beijing for studying at one of the many universities. Often hundreds of kilometers from their family they get a room at the university campus, where they have limited privacy. A room is shared with 4 to 6 other students. Every student gets a bed, writing desk and locker and copes in his own way with this limited space. ...

During the Games //

From showing the way to tourists to checking safety, in total an army of 1,7 million volunteers was ready to spread out the Olympic spirit. This group came in 4 kinds: 400.000 ‘city volunteers’, 100.000 ‘venue volunteers’, 200.000 ‘cheerleading volunteers’ and  1 million ‘social volunteers’.
